Kyodai is the name given to the small vanity, or dressing table, used by Japanese women to store jewelry & cosmetics. By the beginning of the Meiji era (1868), kyodai were being used by women at al levels of Japanese society, and their great popularity resulted in large-scale production of a variety of styles during the Meiji and Taisho periods.
