All of our pieces are sold in as original a condition as possible. We do not use harmful acids to 'blonde' or bleach the wood to strip off any colour or finish nor do we apply stain or varnish. We employ a restorer who specialises in Japanese furniture restoration.

If you value the authenticity of a piece then choose your dealer wisely as some favour removing the colour and finish which, we believe, removes part of the soul and history.

All chests are cleaned using water and wood soap to remove dirt and grime before being applied with a special Beeswax and Orange Oil mixture to feed and preserve the wood.

A bottle of Howard's Feed-N-Wax is provided free with every chest to help maintain the wood. However, once the piece leaves us then the onus is solely on the owner to maintain the chest. This is especially important in the drier climates such as Canberra and Adelaide. No chest should be positioned in an area where it is exposed to direct sunlight, extreme temperature changes and more importantly extreme changes in humidity.

All of our pieces are fumigated to keep unwanted pests out of Australia.
