Za isu – a legless chair. As you know, Japanese people take off their shoes when entering a house. Japanese still sit on the floor and rather than sitting directly on the floor, they often use Za isu. Sitting on it is less tiring and better for the lower back as it offers support. Za isu are commonly used in traditional Japanese restaurants and come in a variety of styles, some with padded cushions, some with a hole in the bottom on which a zabuton(cushion) is added.
