Genuine Japanese Kotatsu Tables, Heaters & Full Sets
The Kotatsu is a traditional low table (Zataku) with a built-in heater and a removable table top, providing warmth and comfort in the home. While traditionally made from wood, we only import quality Kotatsu models made with wood or MDF—we strictly do not import the plastic Kotatsu that you often see online. We currently only offer Kotatsu in full sets, which include the Heater Table, the Kotatsubuton (quilt), and the Shikibuton (thin mattress).
How It Works: The Kotatsu is set up over the thin mattress. The removable top is placed over the doona-like Kotatsubuton that is draped over the frame, allowing the electric heater underneath to warm anyone snuggled beneath it.
Important Safety & Usage Note (Australia): These heaters are made for use in Japan and require a step-down transformer to operate safely in Australia. If you do not use a step-down transformer, the heater will be permanently damaged. We recommend better quality transformers (starting around $200) that can safely handle the unit's power draw (300W to 600W). Running costs are minimal, often less than 5 cents per hour at typical Australian rates.
Sourcing Transparency: We source our Kotatsu through Japanese suppliers; however, for manufacturing reasons, they are currently made by Japanese companies in Indonesia, Vietnam, or Taiwan, not 100% in Japan. We try to find the kotatsubuton sets that are Made in Japan.
