Ozeki Sake Brewery Kamban (SV11)
This authentic Taisho Period kamban (shop sign) features the bold branding of Ozeki Sake (大関). The name Ozeki translates to "Grand Champion," a prestigious title from the world of Sumo wrestling. The central circular crest (mon) and the large, deeply carved characters proudly display this name, finished with a traditional weathered patina.
The vertical text on the right identifies the producer as the Ozeki Sake Brewery Co. (大関酒造株式会社), while the text on the left identifies this as an exclusive Tokuyakuten (Special Contract Store) belonging to the Toritoku Store (鳥徳商店). This sign, along with its counterpart SV12, provides a fascinating insight into early 20th-century Japanese commerce. Having a pair of large-scale signs from the same merchant is quite rare, making this a significant find for collectors of Japanese brewery history.
