Authentic Japanese Futons, Futon Mattresses (Shikibuton) & Bedding Sets
We are Australia's #1 supplier of Authentic Japanese Futons. We import hand-made, high quality futons from a small family-run factory on Shikoku Island that has been in operation for many generations.
These are the only genuine futons sold in Australia that are made in Japan.
⭐ Key Advantages at a Glance
Why choose an authentic Japanese Futon over a local or Western-style 'futon'?
- 100% Japanese Quality: Hand-made by an award-winning futon master; no industrial cotton or foam.
- Eco-Conscious Materials: Premium unbleached and untreated cotton to avoid harmful chemicals.
- Superior Hygiene: The cotton design dries out properly (unlike foam) and is easily sunned to kill bugs and mould.
- Lightweight & Portable: Weighing only 6.8 - 13.7kg, they are easy to fold, store, and ideal for bad backs.
- Australian Exclusive: We do not sell futons made with locally sourced cotton due to concerns about sustainable water usage in river ecosystems.
Product Definition & Set-up
A Japanese futon consists of two parts: a mattress (shikibuton) and a Quilt/Doona (kakebuton).
Both the shikibuton & kakebuton come individually stitched (quilted) and therefore, need to be covered. Covers are included with all purchases.
Important Notes:
We do not sell mattresses for sofa beds or slatted 'futon' bases. Authentic Japanese futons require a solid, flat surface.
If you have a standard King or Queen bed base and would like to continue to use it, we can supply tatami mats to go in between your bed base and the futon mattress.
Detailed Benefits & Information
Convenience & Portability
Easy Storage: Easily fold and store daily. For spare-bed storage, use the supplied vacuum bag to shrink it to 1/3 size.
Lightweight: At only 6.8 - 13.7kg, it's ideal for bad backs and much easier to handle than a heavy Australian 'Futon'.
Health & Hygiene
Mould/Pest Control: Sunning, airing and beating the futon is essential. The sun's UV kills bugs & mould that live in all mattresses, promoting a healthier sleep environment.
Materials: Our premium Mexican cotton is unbleached and untreated, avoiding harmful chemicals like hydrogen peroxide, boron or sodium hypochlorite.
Moisture-Free: Unlike foam-cored mattresses that trap moisture (creating a breeding ground for mould/bugs), the cotton design dries out properly.
Comfort & Customisation
Adjustment Period: Allow 1–4 weeks for your body to adjust to the firmness.
Customisation: Futons compress in the hip and shoulder regions. For extra padding, add a mattress topper underneath or stack two mattresses for a luxurious feel.
Transparency: Read our genuine reviews by genuine customers here. You won't find fake reviews nor paid influencer ads on any of our products.
