Tsuchiyama was a station known for its persistent rains, and Hiroshige’s depiction of rainfall became one of his most iconic stylistic signatures. This 1920s re-carved print allows the viewer to see the delicate, hand-carved lines used to represent the falling rain against a rural backdrop. Hiroshige's focus on the seasonal and climatic changes of the Japanese landscape provided a revolutionary new direction for Ukiyo-e, making his work as relevant today as it was nearly 200 years ago.
