This ceramic statue represents Kannon Bosatsu (Guanyin), the revered Japanese Goddess of Mercy. It is an excellent example of Kutani ceramics, distinguished by its bold use of enamel colours, including deep reds, blues, and rich gold accents. The detailing is executed using the specialised Moriage technique, where the enamel is built up in raised layers, giving the patterns on the robes a striking three-dimensional texture. Dated to the Shōwa Era (circa 1970), this piece is a substantial and visually impressive addition to any collection of Japanese spiritual artefacts and fine pottery.
