Japanese Kamakura-bori Drawer Box (Hikidashi) - FV12
This compact drawer cabinet, or Hikidashi, is an authentic Kamakura-bori lacquerware piece from the Shōwa Period (circa 1960s). This distinct style, with its layered red-over-black aesthetic, is highly prized for its textural depth.
Design & Craftsmanship
The exterior shell is crafted from carved Katsura wood panels. The sides and top feature the intricate honeycomb pattern (Kikko), while the drawer fronts showcase a deeply carved Peony flower motif (Botan). The exterior is finished with the classic Kamakura-bori red and black lacquer.
The four interior drawer boxes are constructed from unlacquered Shina (Japanese Linden), a fine-grained wood. The chest is completed with a solid base panel and minimalist pull handles, making it an ideal feature piece for desktop use.
