Keyaki and Kiri Display Chest with Silk Brocade (FV16)

This vintage Showa Period display chest, dating to circa 1960, is a refined example of Japanese cabinetry. The drawer fronts are crafted from Keyaki (Japanese Elm), featuring the timber’s celebrated "Fuji-grain" patterns. The internal structure uses Kiri (Paulownia), a wood traditionally valued for its ability to regulate humidity and protect stored contents.

A standout feature of this piece is the pair of top sliding doors, which are finished with silk brocade. This decorative textile adds a soft, elegant contrast to the rich hardwood and hand-forged hardware. Standing 110 cm high with a slim 36.5 cm depth, this chest is an ideal choice for hallways or living spaces, offering a sophisticated blend of mid-century utility and traditional Japanese artistry.
