Nihonmatsu Kiri Tansu
This Meiji Period clothing chest is a classic 2-piece unit crafted from Kiri (Paulownia) wood, showcasing a light, natural timber grain. It features massive circular iron lockplates, each decorated with a deeply embossed Peony floral motif, a central raised boss, and a fine stippled background. The drawer fronts are fitted with traditional Warabite handles and decorative fan-shaped corner brackets. The lower section includes a small hinged cupboard door heavily reinforced with ornate iron strapping and a horizontal locking bar. A stunning example of late 19th-century craftsmanship, it offers substantial storage with authentic regional character.
