Design and Finish
This two-section Hikone kitchen cupboard (mizuya-dansu) features a reddish bengara stained, wiped-lacquer frame. The sliding doors are finished in a dark, opaque lacquer with a reddish undercoat revealing itself at wear points, reminiscent of traditional negoro lacquer. Wire mesh ventilation, vertical slats with metal tacks, and copper handles complete this highly practical piece.
